"When anybody asks me what Dallas was like during the time
of the Kennedy assassination, I always refer them to one book: Edwin
"Bud" Shrake's Strange Peaches."

– Don Graham, Texas Monthly

"Strange Peaches is not only one of the best-written
American novels since World War II, it entertains. . . . [A] great book,
not just for critics but for readers."

– Richard H. Growald, UPI

"The measure of Shrake's commitment to his craft is the
originality with which he presents his ideas."

"Fascinating. Frightening. Memorable."
– Publishers Weekly

"A big novel, two parts anger to one part humor. . .
fast and surefire. And Edwin Shrake's narrative has been amply
dosed with Dexedrine. There's not an ounce of fat on it."
– The New York Times Book Review

"A fine, bitter, sometimes savage but always controlled novel."
– Kansas City Star

"Strange Peaches could well be the novel that gains
for Shrake some overdue recognition in serious literary circles. Ironic,
sensitive, sometimes brutally realistic, often compassionate and sexy."
